Sproul and MacArthur on Christian music

This video addresses the “godly music” debate which caused a good amount of discussion on this blog a few months back. Dr. MacArthur and Dr. Sproul really sum up how I personally feel about modern Christian music. Most of it is shallow, much of it does nothing to promote true worship, and little of it compares with the classic hymns, but simply because they are new doesn’t make them wrong.

Obama seeks Christian votes

Barack Obama realizes that he cannot win the Presidency of the United States without getting some percentage of the “Evangelical” vote. John Kerry and Al Gore have recently discovered this. So in order to try and pull some of those voters, Obama has been trying to appear more Christian, and even “Evangelical”.  See the article Obama Is No Joshua by Cal Thomas. Looking at some of the statements Obama has made in the past show that he is not an “Evangelical.”

“I’m rooted in the Christian tradition,”

“I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

“The difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and proselytize. There’s the belief, certainly in some quarters, that if people haven’t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they’re going to hell.”

“I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. When I tuck in my daughters at night and I feel like I’ve been a good father to them, and I see that I am transferring values that I got from my mother and that they’re kind people and that they’re honest people, and they’re curious people, that’s a little piece of heaven.”

These quotes demonstrate one thing, that Obama doesn’t know “squat” about being a Christian. He is a Universalist, in that he thinks you can believe in anything and go to heaven. His Christianity is based on tradition.  He doesn’t believe the Bible, especially when it teaches that those who “haven’t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior” are going to hell.  He has no assurance that he will go to heaven when he dies, and apparently is putting trust in the fact that he is a good person.

The following verses of Scripture show that Obama is wrong and doesn’t believe the Bible.

Acts 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Revelation 20:15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

1 John 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

My six year old daughter could realize that Obama has no idea of what biblical Christianity is. I only hope that the so called “Evangelicals” do not fall for his religious speak this election year and vote this guy into the White House.

For the record, George Bush was also a Universalist, and didn’t believe that anyone would go to hell. I do not think he understood, or believed the Bible. Why did I vote for him? Because he stood up for the life of the unborn, and was against homosexual marriage.  Obama, on the other hand, is the most anti-life senator in Washington, and would be the most liberal president ever.

Christians shouldn’t look for the candidate that is the most Christian, but the candidate that will stand up for Christian values.  I don’t know that McCain is the best man, nor do I know, or believe, that he is a true Christian, but he is the more conservative choice. Unfortunately, he’s the only choice.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day

This cartoon sums up what Memorial Day is for most Americans. Many of the people I talk to who haven’t served in the military, think that this day is nothing more than a day off of work, or a day to go to the lake, or have a barbecue. In reality, it isn’t a day of celebration, but a day for the remembrance of the sacrifice of those who have given ALL defending our freedom.

May we take some time today to thank God for the men who have given their life for the cause of freedom, and for those who are currently serving. May we soon celebrate their victorious return, and not simply remember their sacrifice.

Summer Vacation is about over

I have been off of work and school for the last two weeks. That is all about to come to an end. I go back to work on Wednesday, and my summer classes will start on June 2nd.  We didn’t go anywhere during my time off, but I have greatly enjoyed relaxing, spending time with the family, and doing some unnecessary reading strictly for enjoyment.

Over the last two weeks, Rachel and I have taken the kids to the zoo, to two movies, and to a company picnic. We have spent a lot of time at home just enjoying being a family. Since we weren’t able to take a real vacation this time, we are planning on going off somewhere in August when my next vacation time is scheduled. We were able to dump the kids off for one night, and go out and have a bit of personal time. A movie, a good dinner, and time alone is always a needed, and appreciated experience.

I was able to catch up on a little yard work, but I didn’t make that a priority. I am glad I don’t live in a community which enforces strict by-laws on yard, and home maintenance. They would have already kicked me out. Fortunately, we have a close by neighbor whose yard looks like a jungle. Just passing his yard makes me feel better about mine.

I have been reading two books over the past few weeks. Debating Calvinism, and In My Place Condemned He Stood. I have enjoyed both of them. When I finish, I plan on posting a review of each. Hopefully, I will be finished with them both before my next classes start on June 2nd.

So far I have only registered for one class, although I am still contemplating whether or not I will take a second. The summer should be busy, especially if I get a practicum. I have requested it, but since I was about five months late in the process, it isn’t certain if I will actually get one. It really doesn’t matter either way, I can either take more classes which will get me closer to the M. Div or I can go play chaplain for a summer. Either one will be beneficial.

Much to do, and much to look forward to. All for the glory of God.

Theological Worldview Quiz

This was quite fun, and somewhat accurate. A few questions are hard to answer, but you have to. That is probably the reason for the high score in a few areas which I do not agree.

What’s your theological worldview?
You scored as Reformed Evangelical. You are a Reformed Evangelical. You take the Bible very seriously because it is God’s Word. You most likely hold to TULIP and are sceptical about the possibilities of universal atonement or resistible grace. The most important thing the Church can do is make sure people hear how they can go to heaven when they die.
